2008 Supported Effort: the Backpack Program
One of the goals of the Women's Initiative is to focus collective resources to increase awareness and impact on community unmet needs. That is why the Women's Initiative is pleased to announce its support of Shared Harvest Foodbank's Backpack Program. For the second year in a row, the program has been selected by this group as the focus for their fundraising efforts.
"If your tummy's not full you can't think of anything but your tummy."
- Mother of children taking part in the Backpack Program
The Backpack Program is a collaborative effort between Shared Harvest Foodbank and Butler County School Success as an avenue towards eliminating learning barriers for children in poverty. Children simply cannot focus and learn if they are hungry. The Backpack Program makes sure children have adequate meals outside of the school environment. Bags of food are placed into the children's backpacks every Friday for the upcoming weekend.
For more information on the Backpack Program, you can contact Chuck Osso at Shared Harvest Foodbank. chuck@sharedharvest.org
